Ave Maria (Schubert) on Harp Guitar - A Christmas 2008 Greeting

24 December 2008
Category: Cover Arrangements

This video is a Christmas Greeting for 2008 from my family and me. For this very special occasion celebrating the birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ, I made an original instrumental arrangement for harp guitar of the Schubert version of "Ave María".

Guitar Tuning: D.F#.G.A.B.C# | D.A.D.F#.A.D

I completed the Ave María video on 17-Dec-08 and it was initially released exclusively on the YouTrax.tv Show's Christmas Special on 19-Dec-08. To watch this show and for more information about YouTrax.tv, please visit:

About the Song

The Austrian composer Franz Peter Schubert wrote this song in 1825, originally titled "Ellens dritter Gesang" (Ellens Gesang III, D839, Op 52 no 6, 1825), or "Ellen's Third Song" in English. "Ave Maria" ("Hail Mary" in Latin) are the opening words and in the refrain of Ellen's song. Perhaps this is why Schubert's melody was adapted to the traditional Roman Catholic prayer "Ave Maria". The Latin version of the Ave Maria prayer is what is most frequently used with Schubert's melody.
